VC, LMU, OMU-ARAN, PROFESSOR ADENIYI OLAYANJU RECEIVES FELLOW OF NIGERIAN INSTITUTION OF AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERS (NIAE)

On Wednesday, 18th November 2017, Professor Adeniyi Olayanju was announced and decorated by the National Vice-Chairman, NIAE, as a Fellow of the Institution following his proven academic, professional and administrative track record worthy of recognition. The declaration was made at the 3rd quarterly general meeting of NIAE held at the Conference Centre of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Ilorin. Professor Olayanju appreciated the leadership of the Institution for the honor and recognition which he described as a stimulus for more contributions to take agricultural engineering to an enviable height.

Professor Olayanju who doubles as the Guest Speaker of the day held the gathering captivated with inspiring charge contained in the technical paper delivered titled “Agricultural Universities and Product Development: The Agricultural Engineers to the Rescue”. With copious statistical evidences, the Guest Speaker affirmed that Agriculture is the key driver of economy, which calls for quick intervention of agricultural engineers in providing engineering aided solution to challenges besetting agricultural productivity, food security and sustainable development that the continent of Africa actually needs.

The Speaker identified six major areas of specializations in Agricultural Engineering (Farm Power and Machinery, Soil and Water, Processing or Post-harvest, Farm Structures and Environmental Control, Forestry and Wood Product, Food Engineering) which needed to be explored with intensity across educational institutions and research institutes to change the phase and fate of agriculture. He articulated the functions of the University with respect to generating knowledge through research; transferring knowledge through education by providing an educated and skilled workforce; disseminating knowledge to society; and generating economic development. He highlighted the LMU agricultural revolution mandate from products development concepts to market, which necessitated assistance of agricultural engineers in driving the vision with tenacity to fruition.

He therefore called on all members of NIAE to be more creative and solution driven in application of engineering science and technology to agricultural production and development of prototype equipment in Agricultural Universities especially in LMU, Omu-Aran, whose quest for redeeming the dignity of black race via agriculture is exceptional.
