Landmark University Celebrates 15th and 7th Matriculation Ceremony Welcoming 882 New Students

Landmark University on 14 February 2025, celebrated a significant milestone with the successful holding of her 15th and 7th matriculation ceremony, officially welcoming 780 undergraduates and 102 postgraduate students (totalling 882 freshmen) into the academic fold for the 2024/2025 academic session. The event, held at the university's multipurpose hall, was attended by faculty, staff, parents, and the Matriculating students, all gathered to mark the formal induction of these young scholars into the Landmark academic community.

The ceremony commenced with an opening prayer led by the university’s chaplain, Pastor Popoola Joshua. This was followed by a welcome address from the Registrar, Engr. Adebayo Ajala, who emphasised that the day marked the official start of the freshmen’s journeys at Landmark University, a citadel of learning where future leaders are nurtured to become pathfinders, pace-setters, and solution providers. He congratulated the new students, noting that their decision to join Landmark University would be the foundation for a transformative academic experience.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Ajanaku, noted that the matriculation ceremony signified the beginning of a transformative chapter in the lives of the new students. He described Landmark University as a world-class institution committed to holistic education—an approach that nurtures intellectual, spiritual, physical, and emotional growth. Prof. Ajanaku highlighted the institution’s achievements, including her recent ranking as the 3rd best university in Nigeria by the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2024, as well as her strong performance in the 2025 World University Rankings. The university’s commitment to academic excellence was further affirmed by the recognition of a faculty member who was awarded the prestigious 2024 L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Talent Award for Women in Science. He encouraged the matriculating students to embrace the university’s core values, which he said would guide them to success in the years ahead.

Delivering her address titled “A World of Unlimited Possibilities,” the Pro-Chancellor, Pastor Faith Oyedepo, charged the freshmen to embrace the vast opportunities ahead of them. She emphasised that one of Landmark University’s core missions is raising a new generation of leaders, and their admission into the institution marks a significant milestone in that journey.

She encouraged the students to recognize that unlocking their full potential requires stepping out of their comfort zones and taking bold steps, as this aligns with Landmark’s core value of Possibility Mentality. Citing the biblical example of Joshua and Caleb, she urged them to never see themselves as small in a world of giants but instead to recognize the greatness within them.

She outlined four key principles to transform possibilities into realities:

  1. Embrace challenges with boldness – Daring steps lead to innovation, setting new trends, and breaking barriers.

  2. Stay focused – Avoid distractions that can derail progress.

  3. Never fear failure – Fear limits potential, while persistence leads to breakthroughs.

  4. Depend on God as your helper – Divine guidance is essential for a successful journey.

Pastor Faith Oyedepo assured the matriculating students that a bright future awaits them if they make the most of the opportunities Landmark University offers. She reminded them that “the future belongs to those who prepare for it today,” encouraging them to embrace their transformative journey with purpose and determination.

In his address, the Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr David Oyedepo, emphasised the university’s distinctiveness, stating that “it is the mode of training that defines the outcome of the trainee.” He highlighted that Landmark University’s graduates are excelling globally, showcasing the validity of its training model.

Dr Oyedepo outlined the university’s three-fold mandate, which serves as the foundation of her philosophy:

  1. To raise a new generation of leaders through a qualitative and life-applicable training system that focuses on value and skill development.

  2. To provide broad-based education built on sound biblical principles, producing pathfinders, pace-setters, and trailblazers.

  3. To restore the lost glory of the black race, equipping students to become reformers who will rebuild broken systems and transform societies.

He emphasised that this three-fold mandate is propelled by Landmark University’s seven core values: Spirituality, Integrity, Possibility Mentality, Capacity Building, Responsibility, Diligence, and Sacrifice, with spirituality being the arrowhead of all the core values.

Dr Oyedepo further elaborated on the custom-built academic programs that set Landmark apart, including:

  • Agripreneurship (AGP): Encouraging students to drive Africa’s agricultural revolution.

  • Total Man Concept (TMC): Equipping students with life skills and problem-solving abilities.

  • Entrepreneurial Development Studies (EDS): Teaching legitimate wealth creation strategies.

  • Towards a Total Graduate (TTG): Serving as a life-coaching program that develops leadership potential.

He reiterated that these programs are designed to equip students beyond academic excellence, preparing them for global impact.

The event concluded with the Registrar leading the matriculating students in the matriculation covenant, officially inducting them as full-fledged students of Landmark University.

Hon. Bola Olukoju, the Honourable Commissioner for Communication, Kwara State, who is also a parent with two children at Landmark University, delivered a goodwill message. Quoting the Chancellor, she emphasised that “it does not have to be white to be right,” a statement that profoundly influenced her perspective on training her children. Encouraging the matriculating students, she further quoted the Chancellor, reminding them that “they were born for a time like this to change the narrative of our dear nation.”
