Chancellor Advocates for Spirituality as the Key to Intellectual Prowess at 2024 2025 Staff Executive Advance
The Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr David Oyedepo opened the three-day 2024/2025 Executive Advance for faculty and staff of the university with a thought-provoking lecture which delved into the profound connection between spirituality and intellectual prowess. The lecture, titled "Spirituality: Gateway into Intellectual Prowess," served as a pungent reminder of the integral role spirituality plays in shaping one's life and accomplishments.
The Chancellor emphasized that spirituality is not merely a complement to life but a core aspect of it. A truly spiritual individual, he asserted, is a marvel in all spheres of life. He drew a stark contrast between the spiritual man and those burdened by sin, highlighting the example of Adam, who possessed an extraordinary spirit until his fall from grace.
The Chancellor explained that supernatural intelligence resides within the realm of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit, he noted, connects the spiritual man to the deep, unsearchable mysteries of God. This connection extends beyond spiritual matters to encompass all aspects of life, including intellectual pursuits (Daniel 1:17), technical skills (Hebrews 11:7), scientific endeavours (Genesis 4:38-44), economic acumen (Genesis 26:12-14), and political prowess (Daniel 6:1-3/28). He cited biblical and historical examples to illustrate this point, including Joseph (Genesis 39:9), Daniel (Daniel 1:8), Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and Apostle Paul. Additionally, he referenced historical figures like Michael Faraday, whose remarkable achievements were undoubtedly influenced by their spiritual convictions.
When the spirit within man dies, the Chancellor cautioned, he becomes a victim of circumstances, stagnation, and frustration. The Chancellor, therefore, urged the faculty and staff to prioritize their spiritual well-being through healthy nutrition and regular spiritual exercises. He concluded by emphasizing that a robust spirit cannot be wished for but must be cultivated. The more developed a man's spirit, he asserted, the greater his intellectual prowess.
