LANDMARK INAUGURATES RESEARCH ETHICAL AND RANKING COMMITTEES

On Monday February 21, 2022, Landmark University charted a way forward as both Research Ethical Committee (REC) and Ranking Committee (RC) were inaugurated towards reinforcing the University’s research endeavours and position in the global education space.

While speaking at the inauguration, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu, noted that the existence of the committees most especially the Research Ethical Committee (REC) was long overdue considering its role in the engagement of publishing platforms which have specific requirements for quality publications. She asserted that the University would align itself with the publication ethics as it desires the fulfilment of its vision. “This is why we have identified some individuals in the University community who would drive the frontiers of our vision with the management, noting their commitment, effort and competencies in ensuring due diligence in this key area,” she noted. She, therefore, expressed confidence in anticipation of positive delivery in line with the terms of reference for the committees.

The Registrar, Miss Adefunke Fola Oyinloye, reeled out the terms of reference for the committees. The Research Ethical Committee is expected, “to consider the ethical implications of all research involving human participants, the processing of personal data, or animal subjects carried out at the University or under the auspices of the University,” and “to set standards, propose and review policy, procedures and practice on the ethical conduct of research in the University”. On the other hand, the Ranking Committee have the responsibility to “Ensure that Faculty in Landmark University feature their scholarship on global platforms accessed by global ranking institutions (Times Higher Education -THE, World University Ranking-WUR, AD Scientific, Nigeria University Commission- NUC ranking, Webometrics, Clarivate etc.),” “Reinvigoration of the Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking which will stimulate in-country competition,” and “Harness opportunity to attract Nigerian experts in the diaspora to spur research in Landmark University,” amongst others.
