VICE CHANCELLOR HOLDS 2ND COLLEGE STRATEGIC TOUR

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu, on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th January 2023, held the 2nd College Strategic Tour. The four (4) Colleges of the University namely: College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Pure and Applied Sciences, and College of Business and Social Sciences, led by the Deans received the Vice-Chancellor in the company of the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (DSPS), Professor Babatunde Adebesin; the Director of Academic Planning (DAP), Dr Olusola Adebiyi; the Director, Centre for Learning Resources (DCLR), Dr Ayooluwa Aregbesola; and the Director, Landmark University Centre for Research, Innovations and Discoveries (DLUCRID), Dr Oluwasogo Dada.

The annual strategic visit to the Colleges was launched in the last academic session upon the assumption of duty of the Vice-Chancellor and aimed at promoting a healthier Landmark University academic culture and community through adequate enhancement of its tripodal mandate of teaching, research and community impact.

The Vice-Chancellor explained the significance of the visit to members of faculty and staff, noting that Nigeria's university education system is changing in response to the National Universities Commission's revolution of the curricula of Nigerian universities to meet global standards and international best practices towards preparing Nigerian graduates for relevance in the global economy. She said further that as the NUC transitioned from the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) to the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), Landmark University, as a top-ranking private institution in Nigeria, must be prepared to assimilate the new process.

Therefore, the interaction of the Vice-Chancellor with the Colleges focused on ways to improve teaching quality, route for patenting and grantsmanship, and develop more community impact programmes. She encouraged the leadership of the Colleges to exemplify the process while ensuring their followers’ compliance. Aside from the aforementioned, the Vice-Chancellor leveraged the platform to assure members of faculty and staff of the commitment of the Proprietor base and the management to their welfare in terms of improvement on their condition of service and rewards system.

The officials on the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage also spoke in furtherance of the discourse. While speaking, the DSPS called for support and a renewed commitment to the School of Postgraduate Studies. He also notified them of their role in the orientation of new graduate students. The DAP unveiled updates on examination processes. The DLUCRID encouraged members on their participation in the IEEE conference, involvement in SDG groups and webinar hostings. The DCLR reiterated compliance with the University’s formatting style in student projects.

While the Colleges leveraged the platform to project their vision, mission and strategic goals for the year, faculty and staff applauded the initiative of the management led by the Vice-Chancellor, seeing it as a step in the right direction towards bridging the gap between them and the management in relation to identifying and remedying their challenges thereby fostering a robust academic community at Landmark University.
