LANDMARK MATHEMATICIAN WINS NATIONAL YOUNG SCIENTISTS PRIZE

Dr Sulyman Salawu of the Department of Physical Sciences, Landmark University has been named Winner of the 2022 edition of the Professor Aderemi Kuku National Young Scientists’ Prize in Mathematical Sciences. His award was communicated in a letter signed by the General Secretary of the Nigerian Young Academy, Professor Charles Adetunji on 27th June 2022. According to the letter, Dr Salawu’s application “stood out as the best” of the many competitive applications received by the Academy. 

The Professor Aderemi Kuku National Young Scientists’ Prize in Mathematical Sciences is an annual award aimed at recognizing young Nigerians who have demonstrated research prowess and made outstanding contributions in the field of Mathematical Sciences. This award which includes prize money and a certificate will be presented to Dr Salawu during the 12th International Conference and General Assembly of the Academy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in August 2022. 

The Management of the University ably led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu, and the entire University congratulated the awardee, Dr Salawu on this milestone which signposted God’s blessing upon his hard work on the good land of Landmark University. 

Speaking on the award, Dr Sulyman Salawu attributed his achievement to God who inspired and strengthened him for productivity. While also appreciating God for locating him at Landmark University, Omu-Aran, he noted that the University has contributed in no small measure to his successful research endeavours, noting the enabling environment and accessible facilities in the University which include conducive office space, stable internet and electricity, funds and sponsorship among others. With this, the University has also helped him to break the barrier of publishing in high-impact journals and now he has published over 70 articles between 2018 when he joined Landmark University and the time of this award. He, therefore, expressed gratitude to the proprietor base and the management of the University for their unremitting commitment to the vision quest of becoming a leading world-class institution as exemplified in ensuring faculty and staff development.
