LANDMARK UNIVERSITY RECEIVES ASSOCIATION OF CHARTERED CERTIFIED ACCOUNTANTS (ACCA)

On Tuesday, 24th November 2015, the University Management led by Professor Aize Obayan received Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Founded in 1904, the ACCA has its headquarters in London with principal administrative office in Glasgow. It is recognized by employers worldwide for its innovation and excellence towards enhancing the Accounting profession globally. Towards marking ACCA’s 10 years of existence in Nigeria, its representatives torched base with the Management of Landmark University for collaboration purpose.

In his welcome remarks, the Registrar Dr. Daniel Rotimi intimated the representatives of the ACCA with the vision of the University, stressing its agrarian revolution mandate to banish hunger and restore the dignity of the black race. He said that “Landmark University is a land of unlimited possibilities because we are ‘possibilitarians’;” hence the University has released two sets of the ‘Pathfinders’ who are excelling in various human endeavors

The Dean, College of Business and Social Sciences, Dr. Tony Nwanji gave a brief account on how the ACCA could certify various programmes represented in the College. As the largest Accounting Association in the world, the Dean expressed confidence in the ACCA’s proposal to partner with the University which produced the graduate that is ranked 5th in performance at the ACCA June 2015 diet in Nigeria. He stated that Miss Roselyn Hermas-Efenudu graduated from the Department of Accounting and Finance and took successfully the ACCA June 2015 diet. On the basis of her performance at the diet, “Roselyn is currently ranked number 5 in Nigeria and 16 in the world,”the Dean submitted.

Speaking passionately on his impression about the University, the ACCA’s Education and Learning Manager for Nigeria, Mr. Victor Ayoola said, “I am overwhelmed to see what is on ground here and the interest of your students in ACCA is also encouraging.” He further commended the University for exploring new frontiers of knowledge which is transmitted to students with commitment, adding that ACCA is poised to make each student suitably ready for the job with requisite ethics and values.   He highlighted the areas where the Association would like to partner with the University: open access to ACCA certification to anyone interested, ACCA Accreditation that would give graduates of the University 7-9 exemptions, establishing an ACCA Centre at Landmark University, joint organized training session and train the trainers programme. Also speaking, the ACCA’s Business Development Manager for Nigeria, Mr. Charles Awhewhejiri said “I have seen a private University that is the best. My main focus is what we can do in the interest of Landmark University and the Students.” He gave assurance that Landmark University could become an accredited center for ACCA in less than three (3) months because all the facilities needed are on ground. While positioning the partnership within the context of the University’s Core-Values, he noted that ACCA is known for openness, global mobility and sustainability, therefore the two institutions have things in common to aid and promote the University globally.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan commended the team for their humbling comments about the University. She noted that, “Landmark University is set to take on board this challenge in terms of driving the next frontiers because our goal is to drive an agrarian revolution for Africa.” Appreciating the professional competence of ACCA, she noted that the knowledge and skills the Association promote could make graduate of the University after sought individuals, as they are being raised to be global leaders through the Total Man Concept and Towards Total Graduate Programme of the University. “Globally the terrain is changing, we will need our graduates to be competent in terms of breaking new grounds wherever they are found. ACCA promotes eagerness to get students ready for the world of work and this is also what we strongly believe in, “the Vice-Chancellor emphasized.
