LANDMARK INNOVATION HUB HOSTS FIRST ENTREPRENEURSHIP HACKATHON

As part of its mission to nurture student startups and provide them with the essential knowledge to transform ideas into enterprises, the Landmark Innovation Hub held its first cohort of the Landmark Entrepreneurship Hackathon in the Omega semester of 2023/2024 Academic Session. The event which took place virtually from Friday, June 7, to Sunday, June 9, 2024 was sponsored by Dinesurf and PipeOps, both organisations were co-founded by alumni of the University – Pathfinders Martins Udotai and Samuel Ogbonyomi.

Both Udotai and Ogbonyomi, being past beneficiaries of student development initiatives, sponsored the hackathon as a way to give back to the system that helped them succeed. The event provided students with practical learning opportunities through sprint sessions focused on key entrepreneurial skills, including Identifying Problems and Opportunities, Market Research and Validation, Business Model Canvas Development, and Pitching Your Idea.

A total of 24 student teams participated in the hackathon, competing for seed funding to launch their startups. Following excellent pitch presentations, three teams were awarded funding to register their startups with the Corporate Affairs Commission, enhancing their ability to attract further external investment. These include Team Uhunger which claimed the 1st Place of N200,000 cash prize and 3-month free domain hosting with PipeOps, Team Wox Renewable Energy came 2nd Place to claim N150,000 cash prize and 2-month free domain hosting with PipeOps and Team Student Hive came 3rd Place with N100,000 cash prize and 1-month free domain hosting with PipeOps

The hackathon was a significant step in driving the activities of the Landmark Innovation Hub, in line with the University’s student development goals thereby fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students. By providing practical learning experiences and seed funding, the hub aims to empower students to bring their business ideas to life, contributing to a vibrant startup ecosystem. The University here congratulate the students on their wins and future successes.
