CHANCELLOR EMPHASIZES SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR STUDENTS AT CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR BREAK DEPARTURE SERVICE
The Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr David Oyedepo in a live broadcast urged the University’s students to embrace a profound sense of purpose and responsibility as they navigate their paths forward especially during the Christmas and New Year break. He gave the charge during the 2023-2024 Session Christmas and New Year Break Departure Service held on the 15th December 2023.
With an overarching theme of preparation and destiny, the Chancellor conveyed a resounding message of assurance, saying, "This nation has a place for you in it." He emphasised the importance of proactive preparation, asserting that "no one arrived at a future he did not prepare for." This assertion was underscored by a compelling reference to Lamentation 3:27, stating the significance of being called Kings and Queens by covenant rather than mere accolades.
Focusing on the need for wisdom and spiritual grounding, the Chancellor encouraged students to elevate their holiday pursuits beyond mere frivolities. Drawing parallels to the beginnings of greatness, he highlighted that "every giant started as a baby," using the example of Jesus to illustrate the transformative power of growth and development. "Wisdom is a product of knowledge application," he affirmed, stressing the crucial role of wisdom in assuming responsibilities.
Moreover, the Chancellor highlighted the indispensable role of spirituality in shaping one's destiny, stating unequivocally, "No one grows beyond his or her spiritual stand." He urged students to seek their place in Jesus, emphasizing that this foundation secures a glorious destiny. In doing so, he cautioned against the allure of get-rich-quick schemes, instead advocating for the virtues of hard work and aligning oneself with individuals whose lives bear the proof of a steadfast faith in God.
Closing with a call to action, the Chancellor implored students to take responsibility early, as they stand poised for a great destiny. "Whatever does not apply to real life is deception," he warned, highlighting the importance of embracing responsibility as a fundamental step towards realizing their potential.
The departure service concluded on a note of encouragement and empowerment, leaving students with a resonating message to define their lives with purpose and diligence, setting the tone for a meaningful and impactful journey ahead. He thereafter pronounced blessings on the students, the management, faculty and staff of the University.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku had admonished them to be good ambassadors of the University in all their endeavours while on break. The admonitions of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor John Ojediran; the Registrar, Engr Adebayo Ajala; and the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Emmanuel Ajisegiri were also in view of the students being at their best behaviour, maximising the holiday and returning with good reports.
