VICE CHANCELLOR CALLS NEWLY INDUCTED STUDENT LEADERS TO SERVE AND INSPIRE
Amid an aura of enthusiasm and commitment, Landmark University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku in the company of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Ojediran and the Registrar, Engr Adebayo Ajala recently inducted the Landmark University Student Council (LUSC) members for the 2023-2024 Academic Session to mark the beginning of a transformative journey in leadership and service. The successful 2-day induction programme was under the auspices of the Directorate of Student Affairs ably led by the Dean, Dr Abimbola Oluyori.
As the ceremony unfolded, the essence of leadership echoed through the remarks of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ajanaku who called the inductees to see the Student Council as a platform of service and inspiration to the entire student population. During his presentation titled, “The Role of Student Leaders in Driving Pragmatically the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of Landmark University in view of Vision 2030,” he emphasized that leadership is not merely a title but a commitment to inspire, pre-emptively act, and bridge gaps. He said, “A leader is one who passionately pursues a vision, driven by a relentless desire to make a difference." He underscored the role of student leaders at Landmark University, positioned within the Student Council, as a pivotal responsibility. "Your mantle of leadership isn't just about representation; it's about embodying and steering our institution's Vision, Mission, and Core Values. You are the liaison between the University Management and our vibrant student community," the Vice-Chancellor revealed.
Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor also beamed his light on their role in the accomplishment of the University’s Vision 2030. "Our compass is aligned with our Vision, Mission, and Core Values, guiding our every endeavour. An in-depth understanding of these pillars is fundamental; you cannot impart what you don't possess. Success in leadership here hinges on being deeply rooted in Landmark University's culture. Your actions and decisions should epitomize our ethos; every eye will be on you as trailblazers of change." remarked Professor Ajanaku. His remarks also emphasized the importance of self-confidence, time management, accountability and authenticity for effective leadership.
Similarly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Ojediran addressed the audience on the theme of "Effective Time Management Towards Achieving Academic and Leadership Excellence: Sharing Experiences." He highlighted the increased responsibility of student leadership within Landmark University and emphasized the interconnection between efficient time management, academic prowess, and leadership competence. Professor Ojediran provided actionable strategies for mastering time management to excel in their roles within the LUSC platform.
Following this, Registrar Engr Adebayo Ajala presented on "Engaging Essential Tools and Skills Needed in Student Leadership Operations: Imperative for Outstanding Accomplishments." This session focused on the indispensable qualities and skills essential for success in student leadership roles. Ajala stressed the idea that leadership transcends personal interests or positions, emphasizing the essence of servant leadership. He urged leaders to comprehend their unique leadership styles and navigate them effectively while guiding their peers.
On the subsequent day, Dean of Students Dr Abimbola Oluyori commenced proceedings with a presentation titled "The Place of Student Leaders in Driving the 3-Tier Responsibility of the Directorate of Student Affairs: Essential for Striking the Balance Between Discipline." Dr Oluyori highlighted the significant influence wielded by student leaders within the university community. He emphasized the delicate equilibrium required in student leadership roles and outlined pivotal factors crucial for achieving this balance.
Further enriching the discourse, Landmark University's Chaplain, Pastor Abraham John-Oze, contributed insights in his presentation titled "Engaging the Fear of God in Service Delivery: Acceptable Student Leader Service." He delved into the concept of leading with reverence for God, emphasizing it as a guiding force that restrains individuals from unethical conduct. Pastor John-Oze also elucidated practical steps for leading with a sense of godly reverence.
Additional presentations included one by Director of University-wide Courses Dr Adejumoke Inyinbor, who guided attendees through "Being Exemplary: Balancing Expectations around Leadership, Academics, and Youthfulness/Life." Additionally, the Students Affairs Subdean, Mr Noah Olaibi, spoke on "Understanding Your Job Schedules and Hierarchies: Imperative for Effective LUSC Operation."
These sessions contributed to a holistic understanding of the multifaceted responsibilities and skills demanded in student leadership roles at Landmark University. It was a clarion call to these Student Leaders, charging them to uphold the values of integrity, responsibility, and excellence while fostering a community driven by impactful leadership and unwavering service.
