ELSEVIER CELEBRATES LANDMARK

On Thursday 4th August 2022, Elsevier specially celebrated Landmark University over the recently attained success at the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. According to the report of Elsevier highlighted by its Customer Consultant – Africa, Mr Shalan Khalid, Landmark University scaled their expectations of a university of its age. He said that Landmark University has crossed the threshold of 2000 publications on Scopus which signposted the University’s continuous drive towards improving on its previous achievements of crossing the threshold of 1000 in 2020. The report also ranked Landmark University as the Youngest University in Top 10 Nigerian Institutions in research productivity, having the most productive researchers, the 2nd Most Cited researchers and the Top 5 cited papers. They also celebrated the University on the THE Impact Rankings which listed the University among the 801-1000 institutions of the world for its contributions to delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in the following categories – Zero Hunger (201-300), No poverty (601-800), Quality Education (601-800) and Partnership for the Goals (601-800).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu in her remarks expressed joy over the reality of Elsevier’s celebration of the University and identifying with its global success in the THE Impact Rankings. She noted that the gesture was historic in the annals of the University as it did not only celebrate the University but also the Faculty and Staff who have contributed to the feat. Professor Aremu further signposted the celebration as a call to do more. “This is a moment of self-appraisal, ask yourself what has been my contributions towards the success and how do I improve on that. We must do our bit and be sure that we are working in line with the University’s vision”, she added. The Vice-Chancellor further enjoined Faculty and Staff who are yet to key into research and publication to do so in order to be part of the train. In her words, Landmark has only become a world-class institution and started working towards becoming the leading world-class University as stated in its vision. She, therefore, appreciated the proprietor base, led by the Chancellor and Chairman BOR, Dr David Oyedepo for creating an enabling ambience for excellence, supporting research and community development with huge financial resources which according to her, made the University stand out amongst its contemporaries. 

The Registrar, Miss Adefunke Fola Oyinloye, represented by the Head of Corporate and Public Affairs, Mr Olugbenga Olajide had earlier appreciated Faculty and Staff for supporting the Management by demonstrating the spirit of true followership and teamwork in attaining global relevance. He then thanked Elsevier for being a partner in progress with the institution and for sponsoring the celebration programme. 

Giving their goodwill to the University at the event, Elsevier Customer Consultant sub-Saharan, Mr Victor, and the Country Representative (Nigeria) Alhaji Usman Ibrahim congratulated Landmark University on the feat and for its commitment to standing for excellence. Mr Victor enthused the University community to keep forging ahead noting that the reward for hard work is more work. He said, “We hope that you would improve on what you have, not just being in the ranking but leading in the ranking”. 

In furtherance of the celebration, Elsevier presented certificates of recognition to the members of the Landmark University Ranking Committee and the 17 SDG Group Leaders, while plaque awards were presented to SDG Group 1, 2, 4 and 17, members of faculty, and members of management of the University. The Vice-Chancellor later led faculty and staff to a cocktail party which was attended by the University Secretary, Pastor Frederick Aghahuwa who received on behalf of the Pro-Chancellor, Pastor Mrs Faith Oyedepo the Award of Inspirational Leadership from Elsevier
