LANDMARK INAUGURATES COMMITTEE FOR AVOCADO PRODUCTION

In preparation to validate its nomination by the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) for collaboration in the development of avocado industry in Nigeria, Management of Landmark University has set up a committee to drive the frontiers of the collaboration extended to it by the Council. The Nigeria Export Promotion Council has identified the huge potentials in the Hass variety of avocado in the country and its growing world market opportunities. The Council, therefore, sought the University’s collaboration with other stakeholders both government and non-governmental agencies in the areas which include comprehensive study of the value chain, capacity building program in major avocado producing states, acquisition of pilot plots for demonstration, and development of avocado business plan.

Having considered the collaboration a viable platform to further advance the University’s agrarian vision, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu inaugurated the five-man committee to represent the University in the “implementation of strategic programme and critical intervention to boost Hass avocado production in Nigeria for increased earnings”. According to her, the University is confident of value-adding contributions from its members as they were drawn based on their strengths and contributions. She then noted that the platform would be leveraged to develop other products in the University. Members of the committee include Professor Emmanuel Ajisegiri (Chair), Professor Enoch Oyawoye, Professor Osemwegie, Dr Aruna Adekiya, and Mr Abiodun Gbadamosi.
