Preparatory to the 2022 Annual Conference of the Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN) scheduled to hold in Landmark University in October this year, the University management ably led by the Acting (Ag.) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu and the National Executive of the society led by its President, Dr Mohammed Ishaq inaugurated the Central Organising Committee (COC) for the upcoming conference on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

During the inauguration, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the enormous task of hosting a conference of a society such as the ASN. She said that the University has ever been a cynosure of excellence in terms of hosting a conference both national and international. She highlighted the successful hosting of several similar conferences which included among others the Association of Deans of Agriculture in Nigerian Universities and Directors of Agro-industries (ADAN) and the Nigerian Society of Animal Production (NSAP) towards assuring the National President of the preparedness of the University to host the forthcoming conference. She also noted that their collaboration on the inauguration would enable the COC to showcase what the University has been doing with regards to hosting the conference. She, therefore, appreciated God for making the day a reality, noting the effort that had gone into securing the hosting right and identifying individuals to drive forward the vision of both the University and the Society successfully. 

Earlier, while warmly welcoming the ASN national executives to the amazing Landmark University campus, the Registrar, Miss Fola Oyinloye had corroborated the Ag Vice-Chancellor in expressing the University’s readiness to host the conference. She also emphasized that the University seeks and is open to relevant collaborations. According to her, the significant role it plays in an organization’s decision making and robust output cannot be overemphasized.

The President of the Society, Dr Ishaq, a plant breeder and Director at the National Cereals Research Institute (NCRI), Badeggi, had earlier stated that their visit had a bifocal aim of inaugurating the COC for the conference and highlighting the expectations of the Society with the assurance that they would be adhered to by the University vis a vis the conference hosting. While expressing satisfaction and optimism, therefore, that the plans for the conference would be successfully executed by the COC, Dr Ishaq noted that his fears had been allayed by the passion, commitment and intentional approach of the University towards the hosting right, noting that Landmark would be remembered not just for hosting the Society’s annual conference but also being the first private institution in Nigeria to do so.
