AWARD OF 68 FIRST-CLASS HONOURS WITH A PERFECT 5.0/5.0 CGPA MAKES RECORD-SETTING HISTORY AT 10TH CONVOCATION

On Friday 13th of October 2023, a historic moment unfolded at the 10th Convocation ceremony of Landmark University, as the institution celebrated the exceptional accomplishments of its graduates Class of 2023. From the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Miss Danjuma Deborah with a remarkable 5.0/5.0 CGPA made history by leading a cohort of sixty-eight First-Class Honours graduates out of a total of 504 students. This achievement further attested to the University's commitment to nurturing and producing well-rounded graduates who are ready to take their world by storm from their respective fields. In addition to the remarkable First-Class Honours, the convocation also marked the conferment of 5 Postgraduate Diplomas, 9 Master's degrees, and 15 Doctorates, underlining the institution's commitment to providing holistic educational opportunities with timeliness in view.

Speaking at the event, the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Regents of Landmark University, Dr David Oyedepo delivered a thought-provoking speech titled "The Type of Education We Need in Africa." He emphasized the necessity of reengineering Africa's education system, directing it towards finding indigenous solutions to local and global challenges. Dr. Oyedepo's address pinpointed untapped natural resources and human intellectual capabilities as key factors in Africa's underdevelopment, advocating for a shift towards solution-driven reasoning to harness the continent's potential. 

Highlighting the uniqueness of Landmark University as an archetypal institution, the Chancellor underlined the university's mission to see Africa's lost glory restored. He praised Landmark's commitment to turning rhetoric into practical solutions and its custom-built programs that shape well-rounded graduates. Encouraging the graduands to be problem solvers, he said, "the world is not looking for storytellers or entertainers; problems everywhere imply opportunities everywhere."

"At Landmark, we desire not just diagnosis of the problem, but an action plan that turns rhetoric into positive experience. We are committed to giving life applicable education to a new generation of leaders by planting their skills on the elevated platform of our core values. Our custom-built programmes which includes Total-Man-Concept, Entrepreneurship Development Studies, Agripreneurship and Towards a Total Graduate (TTG) are unique to us.” 

In her charge to the graduands, the Pro-Chancellor of Landmark University, Pastor Mrs Faith Oyedepo, awakened them to the reality of their transition to real-life experiences when she spoke on: "Life after Graduation". Pastor Oyedepo said life after graduation is exciting but at the same time demanding. She asked the graduands to imbibe three guiding principles of being passionate, proactive and patience to achieve their future desires. "Be passionate for God and His word, develop an intense, strong, affectionate desire for God and His word,” she said.

Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor of Landmark University, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku, said the institution was proud to be among globally renowned universities. He credited the achievement to the utilisation of outstanding facilities for high quality engagement. He added that the Institution provides innovative courses designed to prepare the graduates for success in the competitive world of work. "Landmark curricular wield transformative influence, propelled by our impactful custom-designed programmes. These initiatives ensure continuous exposure to the word of God. Agripreneurship, and specially crafted modules under the guidance of our Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, all aimed at shaping a holistic and well-rounded graduates," he said. The Vice Chancellor charged the graduands to imbibe Landmark core values as their guiding principles and consider the word of the Chancellor in achieving their goals and objectives. 

The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, who led other Kwara South traditional rulers to the event, in his goodwill message, commended the remarkable height the institution has attained since its establishment. 

The occasion was graced by an illustrious gathering of dignitaries, Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of other universities far and near, and proud parents. It is a pointer to the fact that in the education landscape, Landmark University remains a cynosure of academic excellence, emphasizing a holistic approach to education which focuses not only on academic excellence but also on values, ethics, and character development.
